Waldo Emerson
(1836-1842)

The first child of Lidian and Emerson, Waldo was only five years old when he died of scarlet fever. Waldo was the apple of his father’s eye and would spend long hours playing quietly in his father’s study.  After his death Emerson wrote Threnody (a poem of mourning) to memorialize his son.
