In this forum, historian and author Harold Holzer, a leading scholar of Abraham Lincoln and the political culture of the Civil War era, will lead a discussion of his latest book, Monument Man: The Life & Art of Daniel Chester French. Holzer explores the long life and dramatic artistic career of preeminent American sculptor Daniel Chester French, whose statue for the Lincoln Memorial is arguably the nation’s most iconic.
French was a friend and neighbor of Emerson and sculpted several likenesses of him, including the seated marble statue on view in the Concord Free Public Libary. French’s famed Minute Man statue commemorates the opening battle of the American Revolution and can be seen at Concord’s Old North Bridge in Minute Man National Historic Park.
This event is sponsored by the Concord Museum and will be held in the Churchill and Janet Franklin Lyceum in the Rasmussen Education Center. Tickets are $5.00 for members and $10 for non-members.
