In collaboration with the Ralph Waldo Emerson Memorial Association (RWEMA), Concord’s historic Wright Tavern is hosting an early birthday celebration for Emerson on Friday, May 22, 2026.
The day begins with a private tour of the Ralph Waldo Emerson House at 10 a.m., followed by a noon luncheon at the Wright Tavern provided by Concord Market. At 2 p.m., historian and playwright Phil Paradis will perform his one-man show Ralph Waldo Emerson: The Sage of Concord. Set in 1871, the play depicts Waldo entertaining visitors in his home study as he reflects on his life and work. Experience Emerson’s wit and wisdom as he charms guests with anecdotes and shares his thoughts on nature, religion, politics, and science. The performance runs 60 minutes.
