A Rare Film Find

Our thanks to Concord neighbor Fred Shirra for sharing his recent YouTube discovery of a short film about Ralph Waldo Emerson from the 1920s.

This charming silent 16mm movie intersperses selections from Emerson’s biography and writings with black-and-white footage from around the town of Concord, Massachusetts, including the Old Manse, the Emerson House, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, and the Old North Bridge.

The 15-minute film is available for viewing on YouTube or directly from this page. Enjoy!

Fred also shared a photo comparison of the Emerson House as it appears in the film versus today; as you can see, it has changed remarkably little over the past century.
